FIFA World Cup 2034: AECOM to Manage Upgrades at King Fahd Sport City

Saudi Arabia is preparing to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034. To get ready, AECOM will oversee the site supervision for upgrades at King Fahd Sport City. These improvements also support the Kingdom’s hosting of the AFC Asian Cup in 2027.
The upgrades at King Fahd Sport City are part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan. The goal is to modernize sports infrastructure to boost economic growth and improve the quality of life for its people. The project focuses on making the stadium more energy-efficient and improving key building systems.
King Fahd Sport City, known as the “Pearl of Stadiums,” opened in 1987 and has been a key part of Saudi Arabia’s sports culture. The modernization aims to meet international standards and help the Kingdom become a global sports destination.
AECOM Hunt, a partner in the project, has extensive experience in managing stadium construction worldwide. The company has worked on more than 140 stadiums, including major venues in the United States. Their expertise will be vital in ensuring the upgrades meet the highest standards.
The planned renovations are important for Saudi Arabia’s sports future. They support the upcoming AFC Asian Cup in 2027 and prepare the stadium for the FIFA World Cup in 2034. The work reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to hosting world-class sporting events and developing sustainable infrastructure.
