Israeli Strike on Gaza School Kills at Least 20 Displaced People, Health Officials Report

An Israeli airstrike early Monday hit a school in Gaza City’s Daraj neighborhood, where displaced people had sought shelter. Local health authorities reported at least 20 people were killed and dozens more injured, including women and children. The strike caused severe damage, with some victims suffering burns. Since early May, Israel has intensified its military operations in Gaza. The stated aim is to dismantle Hamas’s military strength and governance while securing the release of hostages captured in October 2023. Israeli forces currently control approximately 77 percent of Gaza through ground operations, evacuation orders, and bombardments that have forced many residents to flee their homes.
