Simi Tells Fans to Stop Calling Her Daughter Duduke

Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has asked her fans to stop calling her daughter Adejare the nickname “Duduke.” She made this request during a recent conversation with media personality VJ Adams, where she explained that the word does not have any meaning and is not her daughter’s name.
The name Duduke became popular after Simi released a hit song of the same name in 2020. The song was released during her pregnancy and quickly became an anthem for mothers and fans across Nigeria. At that time, she and her husband, singer Adekunle Gold, were expecting their first child. When they later welcomed their baby girl in June 2020, fans naturally connected the child to the song and began calling her Duduke.
Simi has now made it clear that although she understands the love behind it, she does not like people calling her daughter by that name. She explained that Duduke is not a real name. It is just a sound used in the song to express how her heart beats for her baby. It does not carry any real meaning or cultural value, and she would prefer if people used her daughter’s actual name, Adejare.
The song Duduke was written to celebrate the joy of motherhood. In the lyrics, Simi used the word Duduke to mimic the sound of a heartbeat. The emotional music and visuals touched many hearts, especially among expecting mothers. The song became very personal to her fans, many of whom felt connected to Simi’s journey through pregnancy and motherhood. However, this connection led to many people calling the baby Duduke as if it were her real name.
Simi’s explanation helps people understand that the word was never meant to name her daughter. It was simply a creative way of expressing deep emotions. She mentioned that if the word had a meaningful or positive meaning, she might not mind it. But since it was just a sound, she would prefer it not to be used as a name.
In Nigerian culture, names carry deep meaning. They are often chosen carefully and are connected to family history, beliefs, and identity. Calling someone by a name that has no meaning or cultural background can take away from that value. Simi and Adekunle Gold gave their daughter the name Adejare, a Yoruba name with significance. Using a nickname that has no meaning could overshadow the importance of her real name.
Many fans did not realize the problem and believed that calling the child Duduke was a sign of love and support. Now that Simi has spoken about it, some fans have begun to reflect on their use of the nickname. Some social media users have already expressed understanding and said they will now call her by her real name. Others are still attached to the word because of the emotional impact the song had on them.
It is common for celebrities to face situations where fans cross personal boundaries, even without meaning to. When artists share parts of their personal life through their work, fans often feel a close connection. However, it is important for fans to understand where the line is between public and private life. Respecting a person’s name and identity is part of that boundary.
In Simi’s case, the song Duduke was a beautiful and creative way to celebrate the love she felt for her unborn child. But now that her child is growing, Simi wants people to recognize her daughter as an individual with her own name and identity. Adejare is not just a child of celebrities, but a person with her own story, starting with the name her parents gave her.
The story serves as a gentle reminder about the power of words and names. It also highlights the need to respect the choices and boundaries of public figures, especially when it comes to their children. While fans may feel love for celebrities and their families, using the correct names and terms shows respect for their personal wishes.
Simi’s message is not meant to create distance but to bring awareness. By explaining her reasons kindly, she helps fans understand the importance of naming and identity in her family. She also shows that it is possible to set boundaries with love and understanding.
