South Williamsport Wins District 4 Baseball

South Williamsport’s young baseball team has captured the District 4 Class AA championship by defeating Montgomery 8-6 last Tuesday. This victory marks the Mounties’ fourth district title in seven years and their third straight trip to the state tournament. They will host District 3 champion Camp Hill on Monday afternoon.
Despite graduating many key seniors last season and having only one senior return, South Williamsport did not let its youth become an excuse. The team faced one of the district’s toughest schedules but still managed to rise to the challenge and claim the championship.
The Mounties barely made the playoffs, securing their spot with a dramatic 9-7, nine-inning victory over North Penn-Mansfield. After that, they upset top-seeded Southern Columbia 7-4 in eight innings. In the final against Montgomery, South overcame an early 2-0 deficit by scoring five runs in the sixth inning. Though Montgomery fought back, South held on for the win.
Freshman pitcher Cole Gerber played a key role throughout the playoffs, throwing seven scoreless innings against Southern Columbia and earning the win in the final game. Gerber also contributed offensively with an RBI single in the championship match. Third baseman Marc Molina helped drive in important runs during the playoffs and the final, while freshman reliever Kamdyn Bubb closed out the last game with a strikeout.
Head coach Chase Waller noted that the team’s preparation through a tough schedule helped them handle the pressure of playoff baseball. The players’ hard work and commitment throughout the season made the difference.
Looking ahead, South Williamsport is ready to face Camp Hill in the state tournament. The team’s confidence is high, and they aim to build on their district success by making a deep run in the playoffs.
South Williamsport’s baseball program has a strong tradition of success, with four district titles in the last seven years. This season’s young team, led by fresh talent and strong coaching, continues that winning legacy.
